What does the Governor's Council do?

It provides the Governor of the Commonwealth with advice and consent with respect to the;


- Nomination of judicial officers
- Appointment and removal of notaries public, justices of the peace
- Issuance of commutations, pardons
- Payment of monies from the treasury


How does it Work?


    The Governor or Lieutenant Governor presides over the eight-member Council which meets weekly in its State House Chamber. Council members are elected for two-year terms. District 1 is comprised of 48 cities and towns in the counties of Barnstable, Nantucket, Dukes, Bristol and Plymouth.
